The Costa Brava, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, is sometimes called the Catalan coast or the Gerona region or "Emporda", the historical region of Catalonia. It runs from Blanes, which is 60km northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.

• The “Wild coast” is the part of Spain from the northern border with France down to around Lloret del Mar. Lloret is the most developed resort.
