Do you dream of having your wedding abroad, but fear it’s too much of a task to take on?  Well, not to worry, leave it to the travel and wedding experts to help steer you in the right direction.

It’s time to forsake the grey skies of England and leave your brollies behind for a beautiful destination wedding.  Who really wants to march down the aisle all soggy and wet anyway?  Planning a destination wedding may seem tricky, but the rewards will certainly pay off. Follow our trusty tips and you’ll be able to relax, dust off your suitcase and start planning the wedding of your dreams.

Location: It’s important you choose your destination wisely.  There are many factors you need to consider before you decide.  You need to keep in mind the time of year and which geographies will be suitable.  For example, if you have your heart set on Thailand between April and November, then you might want to reconsider.  After all, that’s Thailand’s monsoon season.  To help make the location decision even easier, hiring a travel and wedding planner will answer your questions. We will help you choose the right destination, lighten the load and help to make your day run smoothly.

Do your research: Before you start telling everyone of your destination-wedding plans, it’s important for you do your research.  Weddings abroad can be intimidating for guests – especially for their wallets – so it’s important you gather as much information as possible to share with your guests.   The more you present to them in detail and face the reality of the costs, the less they will stress.  Putting together a personalised wedding website is highly recommended and just one of the many services we offer to our clients.  These websites are easy to create, and are an excellent way to share information and updates with your guests.

Save the dates: Once you’ve committed to the destination, venue and date, it’s time to send out the “save the dates”.  The sooner the better!   It’s a good idea to give your friends and family ample notice; so in turn, they can plan time off work and save up for the trip.

Legalities: Next, it’s important you look into the legal wedding requirements needed in order to be married in your country of choice. Every country requires different documentation.  To avoid any extra stress during what’s meant to be one of the best days of your life, come prepared with all the necessary documents.  For additional travel guidance and a list of embassies you can check out the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.  Also, it’s important to know if your marriage will be recognised once back in the UK.  You don’t want any surprises down the road!

Dress for the weather: You’ll need to keep the climate of your destination in mind while shopping for your dress; there are so many different dress style options you can choose from. Tropical, Caribbean island?  Think flowy, strapless, or open back. Snow-covered mountain? Don a stylish fur stole.    When choosing a dress you must think about how it can be safely transported.   It’s wise to call and check with the airline what the wedding dress policy is for bringing your dress on board, should you wish to forgo packing it in the hold.

Insurance: Finally, travel insurance is a must.  Even though you may think you don’t need it (and of course we hope that you don’t!), it provides some peace of mind.  You can’t predict the weather, or any other unforeseen changes, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Remember, the world is your oyster when planning your destination wedding.  This is YOUR day, have fun, relax and live happily ever after!
