At pickup, they would not let us add drivers without every driver having their own credit card. We’ve rented from several rental car companies over the past 8 years and have never needed all 3 listed drivers to have their own credit card, only the primary renter has needed a major credit card. When we asked to use a debit card and a deposit to add drivers, we were told “that’s not how we do things here” in a rude tone. Because of that, we had to make a 14 hour trip (one way) with only one driver, out of 3 capable adults. When we picked up the van, it wasn’t cleaned well. There was sand and dirt in the carpet all throughout the second and third rows, the cup holders in the center console had something sticky in them, and there were candy wrappers in the third row. I didn’t notice the sticky substance or the candy wrappers until later that evening, when we were packing up to leave, so I cleaned it and went on. The oil had also not been changed in the car. I kept getting “change oil soon” notifications. We will not be renting from National again. I was not impressed with the lack of cleanliness, their lack of proper maintenance their vehicles, or the rental policy on adding drivers.
