We were delayed by 2.5 hours and communication was abysmal. None just one message whilst on plane. Very poor. However your female stewardess was most smiley and was so helpful to everyone. Thumbs up there

Perugia sits landlocked in the centre of Italy. This picturesque town is a true delight to stroll through and you never know what you will discover around the next corner. It is easy to get lost in the maze of narrow, cobblestoned streets, but continue walking upwards until you reach the medieval walls. From here, enjoy the fantastic views across the Umbrian landscape. The pedestrianised Corso Vannucci has a wealth of elegant shops and restaurants. The town is dotted with the remains of its Etruscan and Roman past, such as the Tempio di Sant’angelo, a 5th century Roman temple. Piazzas abound with Piazza IV Novembre at their centre. Legend has it that the beautiful Maggiore Fountain here holds the Virgin Mary’s wedding ring. A jewel among the wealth of tourist attractions is the Palazzo dei Priori. This palace boasts frescoes and wooden furniture dating back seven centuries and a beautiful ceiling in the Sala dei Notari. As well as being beautiful to explore during the day, you will also find a vibrant nightlife and good restaurants serving hearty mountain food. And for chocolate lovers, the area is a major producer, so look out for the chocolate shops and cafes.
It is not advisable to drive in the centre of Perugia. The streets are narrow and cobblestoned and many are closed to cars. The city has a good bus service as well as a driverless minimetro which runs above ground. A series of escalators cuts up through the Rocca Paolina taking you through the heart of the medieval city ruins. Plenty of walking tours covering many themes are on offer in Perugia. These include architecture, gardens and botany, and wine making tours amongst others. You can also take a 4×4 safari into the Umbrian landscape of valleys and vineyards.
There is a small airport close to the city, San Franceso d’Assisi Airport (PEG), which serves flights to Perugia from many European cities and direct buses and trains into the city. Most international visitors, however, fly into Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) 130 miles (210 km) away. There is a reasonably priced and direct bus route from Rome Airport to Perugia with a journey time of 3 hours. If you prefer to hire a car for the journey, which also gives you the freedom to explore Umbria, you will find the major car hire companies represented at Fiumicino Airport.
