Trafalgar Square was swept up in a spirited cultural extravaganza yesterday. Yellow and green competed with blue skies and a sun that felt like it had been specially sent in from Rio.

Brazil Day was supported by the Mayor of London and organised by Brazil’s Ministry of Sport, Brazil’s Ministry of Culture and The Embassy of Brazil in London.

DJs, dance lessons, an inflatable football pitch and powerful samba drums transformed Trafalgar Square into a Brazilian party.

Here are 11 pictures from the day:

There were prayer ladies dispensing wishes

And when they weren’t granting wishes, they were dancing

Revellers in “Fuleco” hats (the armadillo mascot) cooled down by the fountain

There was table football that got VERY competitive

And music

There were dancers

Graceful dancers in very colourful costumes

Dancing to music played by phantoms (of the opera)

Trafalgar Square was ablaze in yellow and green

It was almost hotter than Rio de Janeiro!
