It seems the world is turning against the selfie stick. You can no longer use them in The National Gallery in London, Palace of Versailles in Paris, Disney World or anywhere in South Korea – in fact if you’re caught flogging the selfie stick in the country you could face time behind bars!

As the ban shows no sign of slowing down, we’ve decided to pull together a list of some alternative uses for the controversial stick.

1. The knee defender

We all know the moment too well. Just as you get comfy on a flight, the seat in front suddenly pushes back, depriving you of valuable inches of legroom. But fear no more. Prop that selfie stick from the headrest of your seat to the back of the chair in front of you for a roomy long-haul flight.

2. The backscratcher

Why didn’t we think of this one earlier! Next time you’ve got a hard to reach pesky itch just pop the extendable stick over your shoulder to satisfy that scratch.

3. The clothes line

Shortage of socks? No problem. Just give them a rinse in the hotel sink. Secure the telescopic arm of the selfie stick between the walls of the shower or the bathroom doorway and you’ve got yourself a make-shift clothes line.

4. The walking stick

Hiking in the canyons and you slip on a rock. Hobble no more with this make shift walking stick. The telescopic arm will adjust to the perfect length and you’ll be back on track in a jiffy.

5. The self-defence stick

If you get yourself in a bit of trouble you can transform the selfie stick in to a weapon. Whether it’s an intruder, pickpocket or even a spider. Just hurl the stick towards the culprit, snapping a photo in the process so that you can show the evidence to the police.

6. The drink holder

Have a selfie shot with a mate. Please note: this may get messy.
