Located 11km (7 miles) from Lima’s city centre, Jorge Chavez International is Peru’s main international and domestic air hub. In 2010 it handled just over 10 million passengers. Flights to Jorge Chavez International Airport arrive from cities across North and South America, Canada and Europe.
Recent expansions and renovations of the main terminal building have improved standards throughout all operations. Facilities are clean and modern and staff are friendly and organised. Having received an award for being the “Best Airport in South America” in 2011 at the World Airport Awards, Jorge Chavez International is also home to the Sumaq VIP lounge which was labelled “Lounge of the Year” two years in a row.
A mere 15-minute journey to the historic city centre of Lima makes Jorge Chavez a popular gateway for tourists wishing to explore the wonders of the country’s capital and beyond, while good shopping options ensure that they don’t leave empty-handed.
Terminal Transfer
Both the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal are located in one building; all areas are accessed by foot.
Getting into Town
Taxi:Taxi booking desks are located in national and international arrival areas; a trip to the city centre should cost approximately PEN 30 (£7), or PEN 50 (£11) to Miraflores. Ensure that you agree on a price in PEN, or “soles”, before alighting as some taxi drivers use a scam that confuses passengers into believing the agreed price is in PEN and then, upon reaching the destination, claim that negotiations were in US dollars.
Bus: Buses do not enter the airport grounds; rather, they stop on the main avenue which is a 15-minute walk from the terminal building. Fare is PEN 0.75 (about £0.16) to the city centre.
Car Parking
Parking is available across from the main terminal building. The cost is PEN 4.50 (£1) per hour and PEN 35 (almost £8) per day.
Information Desks
Information desks located in the main hall of the international and domestic zone provide airport, flight and tourist information.
