As new cases of Swine Flu emerge daily, holidaymakers are being urged to check their travel insurance policies and keep in contact with tour operators to ensure that they will be covered should they succumb to the illness.

Abta, the travel association, is advising holidaymakers to take their doctor’s advice about whether to go abroad or stay at home.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for Abta, said the organisation had received calls about insurance cover. The Daily Mail quoted her as saying: “Apparently some insurers are placing exemptions on policies. If you need to cancel because of swine flu you need to check your travel insurance policy to ensure it is covered.”
