Michelin Guide features 114 affordable NYC restaurants

Renowned restaurant guide Michelin has announced that 114 New York City restaurants will feature in the 2012 Michelin Guide to New York City 2012 under the “Bib Gourmand” category.

The Bib Gourmand category of the Michelin Guide is ideal for travellers visiting New York, as it concentrates on those restaurants that serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 before tax and tips. The standard amount New York restaurants typically tend to expect when it comes to tips is 15 per cent of the total bill.

Not to be confused with the coveted Michelin stars, which are prized above all else by budding chefs and restaurateurs, the Bib Gourmand category, introduced in 1997, is a good guide for those looking to eat out for affordable prices: the award recognises that a restaurant is an inspector’s favourite for good value.

Just some of the good-value restaurants to be featured in the Michelin Bib Gourmand 2012 category include Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too, a soul food restaurant close to Columbia University on the Upper West Side of Manhattan; DBGB Kitchen and Bar in the East Village, Chef Daniel’s Boulud’s lowdown downtown place where the French Brasserie meets the American tavern; and Sette Enoteca e Cucina, a rustic Italian restaurants in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

New York has some of the best restaurants in the world and it is easy to eat well in the “city that never sleeps” without having to look too far. Flights to New York are available from a number of UK airports, including London Heathrow, Belfast and Edinburgh.
