Air travel has always been a futuristic industry, as airlines look to bring the latest technology to their aircraft.
The arrival of the Dreamliner, the latest luxury aircraft from Boeing, has shown us what’s possible, but what about the aircraft of the future?
It seems that Brits are expecting big things from airlines. Almost 2,000 Brits took part in a survey, conducted by Jetcost, to find out what they think planes will have on board by 2020.
Judging by the results of the survey, it seems that airlines will be fuelling our most unhealthy of habits in the future.
The most common prediction for the planes of the future was the introduction of on-board, fast-food outlets, with 46 per cent of respondents believing planes will come complete with the likes of McDonald’s or Burger King in the near future.
It’s an interesting idea, and being able to buy a Big Mac could be a nice alternative to the food you usually find on some flights.
The second most-common prediction was for a secure smoking area, with 44 per cent of people believing they’ll be able to “light up” on-board by 2020.
Other predictions were a little healthier though, with 32 per cent predicting on-board gym equipment and work-out areas – presumably so you can work off all that fast food – will soon be a feature.
“It was interesting to see that the most common predictions revolved around feeding the unhealthy habits of passengers, enabling the ability to both smoke and eat fast-food,” said Jerome Cohen-Scali, Co-Founder of Jetcost.
“It seems strange to predict that future planes will allow smoking with it having been banned on flights not too long ago, but this suggests that UK fliers may be hoping that development on future planes will allow for smoking to return safely.”
Other predictions hinted at hotel-style planes, providing private rooms for passengers, shower cubicles and even spa treatment rooms. Sounds good to us!
