The logistical coordination involved in planning a holiday can lead some travellers to make glaring oversights, such as allowing the correct amount of time to get to the airport.
Now holidaymakers can be assured that they are covered for missing their departures, thanks to a “no exclusions” insurance policy for missed flights backed by Stuart Rose, former Marks & Spencer boss.
The policy is available on bookings made through easyJet’s website, and Rose argues that the insurance will help to address a gap in the market.
Now Rose (a non-executive director of No Exclusions) is launching the Missed Flight Cover with partner easyJet in the hope that other airlines will take up the policy by autumn.
No Exclusions chief executive Andrew Lothian said: “There is nothing like Missed Flight Cover in the market.”
Missed Flight Cover is available for £7.50 on single flights or £9.50 on return flights. The policy is available on any bookings including those made through travel agents and via easyJet.com.
The insurance covers all potential reasons why a flight may be missed, including if passengers are delayed on their journey to the airport or even if they’ve simply overslept.
Speaking at the launch of the product Rose said: “For me, what’s exciting is that this is a new product that is totally simple, everyone can understand it.”
The policy will offer travellers the chance to rebook seats on the next available easyJet flight or obtain an immediate full refund.
A 24-hour call centre is also available to help passengers rebook. However, claims must be registered within four hours of the missed flight at the easyJet sales desk.
The launch of the product follows figures from market research company OnePoll, which found that more than 70 per cent of passengers are concerned with missing their flights, with 43.6 per cent staying at an airport hotel to minimise this risk.
The vast majority, 89 per cent, said that they always add an additional hour to their journey to the airport to ensure that they catch their flight.
