Not only are the Earth’s oceans massive, but they’re all connected – it’s no wonder finding Nemo was so difficult. Luckily, mankind has invented aquariums, offering us landlubbers a chance to see some of the maritime marvels before they swim off. (Our featured image is by beggs.)
SEA Aquarium – Sentosa, Singapore
This gargantuan aquarium opened at the end of 2012 and contains around 12 million gallons of water.
One of the viewing panels is 36 by 8.3 metres and leaves you feeling like you could be standing on the seabed.
Georgia Aquarium – Atlanta, Georgia, USA
The Georgia Aquarium includes a 6.3 million gallon tank housing four whale sharks – that’s how big this place is. It even contains 11 dolphins and four beluga whales, species deemed far too big for the majority of aquariums.
There’s also a very impressive underwater tunnel allowing visitors to see hundreds of aquatic animals drifting above them at once.
Dubai Mall Aquarium – Dubai, UAE
The third-biggest aquarium in the world is housed within one of the biggest shopping centres in the world, offering shoppers a unique distraction from their grocery lists.
Their largest viewing panel is only a smidgen smaller than that of SEA’s in Singapore at 32.8 by 8.3 metres. Imagine that in the background as you’re adding up your discount coupons.
