Any notion of brunch being a mere substitute for breakfast and lunch is pure urban heresy. A lingering, indulgent (Eggs Benedict anyone? Our featured image, above, is by balise42), and cocktail-fuelled social gathering, it’s arguably the most important meal of the week!

Here we recommended five great weekend brunch spots in London.

NB: We’re huge fans of The Breakfast Club cafes, but they’re too obvious a selection to include here.

Caravan – Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell

  • Vibe: Hipster cafe
  • Eat: House cured organic salmon and scrambled eggs on grain toast
  • Drink: Earl Grey martini

Cheap Flights To London

The Delaunay – 55 Aldwych, Westminster

  • Vibe: Old school elegance
  • Eat: Grilled kipper with kedgeree
  • Drink: A pitcher of Bloody Mary (shared with friends)

Cookbook Cafe – Park Lane, Mayfair

  • Vibe: Business lounge meets cool café (perhaps more of the former than the latter)
  • Eat: The all-you-can-eat brunch buffet
  • Drink: Unlimited glasses of Crémant and Bellini cocktails

Kopapa – Seven Dials, Covent Garden

  • Vibe: West End verve
  • Eat: Chorizo hash with two fried eggs, rocket, sriracha chilli sauce and crispy shallots
  • Drink: Orchard Fizz

The Elk in the Woods – Camden Passage, Angel

  • Vibe: Rustic, hipster chic
  • Eat: Skillet with elk sausages, potato, peppers, pancetta and poached egg
  • Drink: Watermelon Tears
