Passengers who’ve grown weary of their seat-back entertainment systems now have a new recourse for in-flight amusement. This month, Virgin Atlantic is launching a previously unheard-of series of in-flight performances, featuring stand-up comedians, musicians, and other live acts designed to impart that extra bit of levity during travel.
Launched on Virgin Atlantic’s domestic Little Red flights, the comedy shows first appeared this month on planes en route to Edinburgh. Timed to coincide with the high-profile Fringe Festival, the performances gave passengers a preview of some of the talent on offer (and gave the comedians an eager warm-up audience).
Live music will also be available on the airline’s flights starting in September, with concerts designed to promote the thriving music scenes in Manchester and across Scotland. Who knows, passengers may just discover the next big thing whilst soaring 10,000 metres above the UK. Gig schedules will be announced soon, and will primarily feature up-and-coming acoustic musicians.
This isn’t the first cutting-edge new offering from Virgin. The airline has unveiled a number of perks and speciality passenger offerings in recent years, including everything from high-end cocktails to the world’s first airborne art gallery. What’s certain, though, is the new schedule of gigs and comedy shows is an ingeniously simple way of improving the in-flight experience.
