Hewanorra International Airport is the smaller of St Lucia’s two airports (the other is George F L Charles Airport) and handles approximately 500,000 passengers annually. It was originally a military facility and used to be known as Beane Army Airfield.
The airport is situated 3.7km (2.3 miles) north of Vieux Fort and 56km (34 miles) from Castries. As you’d expect in the Caribbean, staff members are friendly and helpful and passengers should have a good experience travelling through Hewanorra International Airport.
Once you’re ready to leave the airport, there are several ways of getting around St Lucia, including helicopter charters, yachts and ferries. Visitors are encouraged to try some of these alternative modes as they offer a unique glimpse into the Caribbean lifestyle.
Terminal Transfer
There is only one terminal at the airport and passengers should be able to make their way through it, on foot, without any trouble at all.
Getting into Town
Train: There are no rail services on St Lucia.
Taxis: Taxis can be found directly outside the Arrivals area. A trip to Castries will take approximately an hour; the journey will cost XCD 175 (about £40) for up to four passengers.
Bus: Buses depart regularly from just outside the airport complex and a trip to Castries will cost XCD 8 (approximately £1.75).
Car Parking
There are 250 parking spaces available at the airport.
Information Desks
There is a customer service desk in the main terminal building to assist passengers with any problems or queries they may have.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: The airport has a currency exchange office and a bank in the terminal.
Luggage: There are no left luggage services at the airport however, there is an Airport Customer Service desk.
Conference and business: There are no conference or business facilities at the airport, although the nearby Skyway Inn has facilities for nearly 400 people.
Other facilities: The airport has a pharmacy, medical services, meteorological services, tour operators, and a hospital nearby.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available in the terminals and waiting areas.
