Ibiza Airport is the main gateway to two of the Balearic Islands – Ibiza and Formentera. The airport is 7km (4.3 miles) southwest of Ibiza, and although the island is small, its popularity as a summer party destination ensures passenger numbers of around five million passengers each year.
About 85 per cent of the visitors to Ibiza arrive between May and October. If you’re there at the right time (and in the right mood), you can catch some of the world’s best trance, house, and techno deejays performing all through the summer.
Alternatively, you can take one of the many guided tours through the city and surrounds, many parts of which have been declared world heritage sites.
The airport is quite small, with only one terminal building, and getting into town is easy enough using either the buses or taxis. Aside from grabbing a bite to eat, or getting a beer at the bar, there isn’t a whole lot to do at the airport itself.
Terminal Transfer
Ibiza is a one-terminal airport.
Getting into Town
Train: There is no train station servicing the airport.
Bus: The Ibiza Airport Bus takes passengers from the airport into the town of Ibiza, where connections to the surrounding areas can be made. The buses leave from outside the arrivals hall every half an hour. The journey takes around 30 minutes, and costs €1.50.
Taxis: The airport is well-serviced by taxis, which can be found directly outside of the Arrivals Hall. A trip into town will cost you around €15, and take about 20 minutes. You could also catch a taxi to San Antonio, San Juan, or San Eulalia for around €25. Taxis for disabled passengers can also be organised through Radio Taxi.
Car Parking
There is a small car park opposite the terminal building that can accommodate almost 500 cars. The first half hour is free, but after that you’re charged €0.019 per minute from 31-60 minutes, and €0.018 per minute thereafter. The maximum daily rate is €10.80 for the first four days, and then €8.65 per day.
Information Desks
There’s an airport information desk in the arrivals area. The Ibiza and Formentera Island Council also has a tourist information desk in the arrivals hall.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: There are a number of ATMs dotted around the airport, as well as branches of La Caixa, and Banco de Credito Balear.
Luggage: Although there are no left-luggage facilities, there is a lost-and-found office located in the arrivals area which is open 24 hours per day in the summer months.
Conference and business: The Modular Auditorium provides a venue for small conferences or training sessions. It can seat up to 80 people and is located in the technical block of the airport. There is no business lounge in the airport.
Other facilities: A police station, post office, and medical aid facilities are available, and there are more than 20 tour operators with desks in the airport.
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is provided by Telefonica de Espana (not free).
