Copenhagen International Airport (CPH), commonly referred to as Kastrup Airport or simply Kastrup, is the biggest airport in Scandinavia, and the busiest airport serving Nordic destinations in the world.

Flights to Copenhagen International Airport are mainly operated by the Scandinavian Airlines System, although it is also a major hub for Cimber Sterling, Norwegian Air Shuttle, and Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia. A new terminal – CPH Go, serving low-cost carriers such as easyJet – opened in October 2010.

Even though Copenhagen International Airport is busy (around 60,000 passengers use it every day, and more than 21 million in a year) it is a remarkably calm and efficient airport, boasting fantastic amenities and facilities. It has consistently been voted as the one of Europe’s best airports by travel and leisure magazines the world over.

Terminal Transfer

All terminals are connected by a complimentary transit bus, while Terminals 1 and 2 are also connected by a 300-metre covered corridor that runs through Pier A. Note that if your itinerary demands that you get from Terminal 3 (international arrivals) to Terminal 1 (domestic departures), you’re going to need at least 40 minutes to complete the trek.

Getting into Town

Airport taxi: Taxis are readily available in the parking areas just outside Terminals 1 and 3 (domestic and international arrivals). It’ll take a maximum of 20 minutes to get to central Copenhagen, and cost between DKK 200 and DKK 250 (depending on the time of day).

Bus: Public Bus No. 250S connects Kastrup Airport with downtown Copenhagen. Buses leave every 20 minutes, from outside Terminals 2 and 3. The bus trip should take half an hour, and cost DKK 28.50.

Metro/Subway: There’s a metro station located in the lower level of Terminal 3 at Copenhagen International Airport. You can buy tickets (DKK 28.50) at the metro counter in baggage reclaim, or else from the automated ticketing machines. M2 Line subway trains run 24 hours a day, leaving the airport every 4-6 minutes, and taking just 15 minutes to reach central Copenhagen (Kongens Nytorv).

Train: Trains from Kastrup Airport Station (Terminal 3) to Copenhagen Central Station (Hovedbangegarden) run every 10 minutes, and take only 15 minutes to complete the trip. You’ll need to buy your train ticket (DKK 25) from one of the DSB counters, located above the station, within Terminal 3.

Car Parking

There is parking space available for more than 8,500 vehicles at Copenhagen International Airport. The parking areas (P1-P17) are more or less removed from the terminal buildings – and the parking fees for each area are determined by the distance you’ll have to travel to reach the airport (although, luckily, there’s a free shuttle-bus service that leaves the parking lots every 10-15 minutes for the terminal buildings). The basic fee structure is as follows: for Budget Parking (follow the light blue signs), parking is free for the first 15 minutes; DKK 25 per hour (or part thereof); DKK 100 per day; and DKK 400 per week, for the first week. For Standard Parking (dark blue signs), parking is free for the first 15 minutes; DKK 35 per hour; DKK 200 per day; DKK 1,000 per week, for the first week. For Direct Parking (grey signs), parking is free for the first 15 minutes; DKK 45 per hour; DKK 300 per day; and DKK 1,800 per week, for the first week.

Information Desks

Information desks are located in the arrivals and transit hall areas of Terminals 2 and 3, and there is a Visitor Centre (with great tourist information) located in Terminal 3.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Danske Banks are located in Terminal 2; there are currency exchange facilities in Terminals 2 and 3, and ATMs in all terminals. There’s a full-service post office between Terminals 2 and 3, and self-service Internet kiosks can be found in the transit areas of Terminals 2 and 3.

Luggage: There are baggage lockers available between Terminals 2 and 3 (DKK 50 per item per day), and a lost and found office available in Terminal 2. There are also self-service luggage lockers available in the parking area P4.

Conference and business: Kastrup Airport’s Hilton Business Centre is located on the fourth floor of Terminal 3, featuring a VIP room, a conference room (with space for up to 50 delegates), and nine meeting rooms.

Other facilities: Other facilities at Copenhagen International Airport include showers and saunas at the Transfer Hotel, baby-change facilities in all restrooms, a 24-hour prayer room, the CPH Apartment lounge and relaxation area, medical facilities, and full accessibility for disabled passengers.

Wi-Fi: Fast, free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal buildings.
