Often overlooked as a poor relation to the mammoth Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly Airport  is nonetheless a great facility. Operated by Aeroports de Paris along with its more famous sibling, the airports share state-of-the-art facilities and efficient services that usher millions of visitors into Paris each year. Far from being an also-ran, the small Paris-Orly does its share, processing more than 26 million passengers each year.

Many frequent travellers like the shorter queues and more personal feel of Paris-Orly and there are some cheap flights available via low-cost carriers such as easyJet and Flybe. The trade-off is fewer destinations to choose from, although flights to Paris-Orly are available from a number of cities, including London, Milan, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Ouagadougou, Antananarivo, Athens, Budapest, Geneva, Madrid, Istanbul, Lisbon, Havana, Barcelona, Ibiza, Casablanca and Malta. There are also frequent local connections to other French airports such as Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier and Ajaccio.

Getting into Town

Train: The RER C station is near the airport, linked by a shuttle service (€2.50) departing from entrances F and G every 10-20 minutes on weekdays, and twice an hour on weekends. The train into Paris takes about 25 minutes, and costs €3.90, leaving every 20 minutes. The RER B train also runs into the city every 20 minutes, and the shuttles for that train depart from entrances A and K. There is a combo fare for the shuttle and train of €10.75.

Bus: There are regular buses from Paris-Orly into the city. The Orlybus runs from the airport into Paris every 15-20 minutes, departing from entrances H and D (arrivals level). The ride takes 20-30 minutes, and costs €6.90. Bus 183 is cheaper (€1.90) but takes longer, nearly an hour, to get to the city; it departs every half hour. There is also an Air France shuttle into Paris every 20-30 minutes that costs €11.50.

Taxi: There are taxis to Paris at Exits M and B (arrivals level). The average fare to Paris is €39, and there are additional charges of about 15 per cent at night and on Sundays and public holidays.

Car Parking

P0 and P2 are adjacent to the West Terminal and costs €3.40 for an hour, €6.40 for two hours, and €9.10 for three hours, escalating to a daily limit of €27.50. P1 and P3 are similarly situated and priced for the South Terminal. P4 and P5 are further away from the terminals and connected by a shuttle bus every nine minutes; they charge €1.80 for an hour, €3 for two hours, €4.60 for three hours, and €6 for four hours, escalating to a daily rate of €15.50. P6 is a three-minute walk from the South Terminal, and charges €2.50 for the first hour, €4.50 for two hours, €6.50 for three hours, and €9 for four hours, increasing to a daily limit of €27.50 for the first day and €21.50 each day after that. All car parks except for P5 are closed from 12:30am to 3:30am or 4:30am, depending on the season.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Banks, ATMs, currency exchange offices, and post offices. There are coin-operated Internet kiosks throughout the airport, as well as the Atlanteam Cyber Cafe in Terminals 1, 3 and 2E. Internet kiosks charge €0.15 per minute, and the Cyber Cafe charges €2 for 15 minutes, €3 for 30 minutes, or €5 for an hour.

Luggage: The airport also offers baggage shipping services, and luggage wrapping is €9 per bag. There is a lost property office.

Conference and business: The Paris-Orly Business Centre has conference rooms for up to 50 people, audiovisual equipment and catering services. Internet kiosks throughout the airport offer printing, web cam, and CD and DVD writing. There are also workstations with plug points.

Other facilities: Children’s play areas, games rooms, Playstation terminals, massage services, a beauty salon, first-aid station, pharmacy and multi-faith chapels.

Wi-Fi: You can use the Wi-Fi at Paris-Orly for 15 minutes at no charge. After that you can purchase browsing time at €2.90 for 30 minutes, €4.50 for an hour, and €9.90 for 24 hours.
