Oslo Airport handles more than 18 million passengers each year and is the second-largest airport in Scandinavia. Situated in Gardermoen, just 47km (29 miles) north of Oslo, the airport is well connected to many cities across Norway. It takes less than 20 minutes to get from Oslo Airport to Oslo Central Station on the fast and efficient Airport Express Train.

A single terminal with two piers branching from it, Oslo Airport is easy to navigate. Passengers using the airport will find that it’s well stocked with shopping opportunities and duty-free options in the departures and arrivals sections of the airport. The restaurants and bars at the airport are also great, but they can be a little pricey if you’re travelling on a budget.

There are more than 20 domestic flights to Oslo Airport and close to 100 international flights to Oslo Airport. The airport is a hub for Scandinavian Airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Wideroe. It is used by several other international airlines and charter companies as well.

Oslo Airport’s terminal is well designed, in terms of architecture and passenger flow. There’s also a fun selection of public art on display at the airport – making for a more interesting airport experience. Oslo Airport is a great introduction to the region.

Getting into Town

Train: The Airport Express Train (Flytoget) can be caught at the airport’s train station, which is accessible from the western end of the arrivals area. Trains depart to various stations in and around Oslo. Trains depart at ten-minute intervals throughout the day from 10.16am to 9.46pm. It takes just over 20 minutes to reach Oslo S (Oslo’s central station) and tickets cost 170 kr (£19) and can be bought at the ticket vending machines at the station. Passengers buying tickets at the ticket desk are required to pay a 30 kr (£3) service fee. The Norwegian State Railways also run a service from Oslo Airport to Oslo Station as well as many other places across Norway (including Skien, Lillehammer and Trondheim). Timetables and fares differ depending upon your chosen destination, but a ticket to Oslo S costs 110 kr (£12).

Bus: The Ruter bus runs between the airport and a number of stops in the airport’s vicinity. Prepaid machine tickets cost 27 kr (£3) and tickets bought on board cost 40 kr (£4.50). Passengers may buy a seven or 30-day ticket. The Airport Express Coach (SAS Flybussen) goes from the airport to Oslo city centre. The bus leaves at 20-minute intervals and costs 140 kr (£16) during the day and 180 kr (£20) at night. There are also numerous tour buses and hotel shuttles that offer services to and from the airport.

Taxis: The airport’s taxi rank is right outside the arrivals hall on the inner road at B14. There is a taxi information desk in the arrivals hall. It costs about 670 kr (£76) to get from the airport to Oslo’s central station.

Car Parking

There’s plenty of parking at Oslo Airport. P1 to P6 are outdoor parking spaces, with P1 within walking distance of the terminal and the rest connected to the terminal via a shuttle bus that leaves every 15 minutes. P10 and P11 are parking garages and are closer to the terminal than P1. Rates for P1 are 34 kr (almost £4) per hour, 240 kr (£27) per day and 960 kr (£109) per week. Charges for car parks P2 to P6 start at 20 kr (£2) per hour, 150 kr (£17) per day and 490 kr (£56) per week, but P4 is slightly less expensive as it is only 100 kr (£11) per day and 390 kr (£44) per week. Finally, parking garage P11 is 400m from the terminal and costs 34 kr per hour, 240 kr per day and 960 kr per week. Garage P10 is only 50m from the terminal and costs 55 kr (£6) per hour, 290 kr (£33) per day and 1160 kr (£132) per week.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Banks, currency exchange facilities and ATMs (offering 16 different currencies) are all available at Oslo Airport. There is also a VAT-refund office at the airport.

Luggage: A luggage-storage facility is available next to the railway station on the arrivals level. The office is open daily from 5am to 12am. Luggage can be stored for up to three months and prices range from 65 kr (£7) per item for up to five hours, 76 kr (£8) for up to 24 hours, 240 kr (£27) for a week and 720 kr (£82) to store an item for a month. Smaller items can be stored for smaller fees. Luggage porters are also available; they charge 136 kr (£15) for a number of items or just 55 kr (£6) for one item of luggage. The airport’s lost-and-found office is opposite the railway station in the arrivals hall. It is open from 5am until 12am, daily.

Conference and business: The Radisson Blu Airport Hotel has a variety of meeting rooms and conference facilities. The Park Inn Oslo Airport also offers on-site meeting and conference facilities. For telephone, fax and photocopying services within the airport head to one of the service desks and in some of the airline lounges.

Other facilities: Assistance is available for passengers with disabilities and for kids travelling alone. Airline lounges, baby-changing facilities, photo booths, a travel agency and a chapel are all available at the airport.

Wi-Fi: One hour of free Wi-Fi is available at Oslo Airport. Passengers need to get an access code from one of the restaurants, the Point and Flavours kiosk or the Capi electronics store. Connect using the access code and the AIRPORT network. There are also 16 Internet stations scattered throughout the arrivals and departures areas of the airport.
