But a recent survey has revealed that the high-cost of footing the bill for these hotel extras in some countries could force travellers to think twice.

A poll by TripAdvisor found that the combined cost of four-star hotel extras including a club sandwich, bottle of water, peanuts, can of coke, mini bottle of vodka and dry cleaning one shirt were highest in the Russian capital of Moscow, setting holidaymakers back £53.05.

Paris took second place in the ranking for the costliest hotel extras at £44.17, followed by Stockholm (£43.97), Oslo (£43.15) and Zurich (£42.90).

Cheap Flights To Paris

London came in at 11th place in terms of the most expensive destinations for hotel extras, with a total of £34.36.

When individual costs for items were broken down, stark differences between the prices around the globe were revealed.

While a packet of peanuts came in at just £1.20 in a Cape Town hotel, this was a staggering £7.96 in a Moscow hotel.

The cost of a club sandwich in Moscow (£13.95) and Zurich (£18.67) was more than three times the price of that in a Cape Town hotel (£4.11).

Topping the list of cheapest destinations for hotel extras was Cape Town at a total cost of £12.61, followed by Sharm el Sheikh at £15.27 and Mumbai at £16.27.

The last two places in the top five were occupied by Istanbul (£17.51) and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (£18.07).

“For those willing to shell out a bit more on flights, it seems there is money to be saved in south east Asia or Africa,” said TripAdvisor’s Emma Shaw.

“For Brits looking to stay a little closer to home in Europe, there is a price to pay and that price is on average more than four times as expensive.”
