Marks & Spencer (M&S) has launched a brand new travel insurance policy promising to offer travellers greater flexibility.

The new product can be built according to the individual requirements of travellers. Included in the service is the ability to create flexible cover options including varying levels of excess, cancellation and curtailment cover, baggage and trip limits with optional winter sports.

The new M&S travel insurance product, which is underwritten and administered by AXA Insurance, will replace the existing M&S Premier and Standard options, for new single and multi-trip  policies.

“One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to holidays and the same applies to travel insurance. Our new policy  enables  customers to tailor their insurance to their holiday so it means  people  only  pay  for  the  cover  they  need,” said Crawford  Prentice,  Director,  M&S  Money.

“This is particularly important in the current economic climate where holiday budgets need to stretch further.”

In light of the unpredictable nature of travel, the new M&S insurance policy also allows travellers to choose Travel Disruption cover to their policies, too. The cover allows for unforeseen disruptions, such as delays  or  missed  departure, even  when  booked separately and independently from a travel operator.

Tips for choosing travel insurance

When choosing travel insurance there are a number of areas travellers should consider. The first question should be how much cover do you need? Do you just want emergency medical cover or do you want insurance for lost luggage and delayed flights, too?

Another consideration is your destination. Do you need European cover, or worldwide cover? If you are travelling in Europe travellers should bring their European Health Insurance Card too. This card, free from www.ehic.org.uk, will ensure you receive the same state medical care as the locals.

It is worth noting that failing to disclose any information, such as previous medical conditions, could invalidate your cover and leave you without any travel insurance at all.
