It’s Festival Friday, and this week we’re looking at the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in Victoria. It started on 2 March and will run until 21 March – giving festival-goers 20 days of eating and drinking.

The festival started in 1993 and has become one of the biggest events in Victoria’s calendar, with thousands of Aussies making their way to Melbourne.

More than 300 events are taking place in the city and every type of restaurant is opening up its doors to the festival, from rooftop terraces to dimly-lit basement hangouts.

There’s plenty of al-fresco dining as well, with wineries setting out street stalls to show off their latest tipple. While the world-class wine will be one of the big draws of the event, the food is of the highest calibre. Top chefs from across Australia, and from around the world, descend on the festival to “Wow!” visitors with their high-quality dishes.

The festival takes in too many events to mention, but one of the very best is the Foodie Film nights. Hundreds of people will gather in the city to enjoy some al fresco dining and a classic film on the big screen, all under the night sky.
