The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised passengers against “all but essential travel” to Thailand, amid growing political unrest in the south-east Asian country.
Updating its travel advice, the government department warned travellers that the situation in the country is “very uncertain” and that further demonstrations are likely.
Specifically, large numbers of protestors have gathered at Sunam Luang in Bangkok and could march towards Government House over the next two days.
Both of these locations should be avoided “during this period”, according to the department, which regularly updates travel advice for every country in the world.
Issuing guidance to British citizens already in the country, the FCO said: “If you are in Thailand you should keep yourself informed of developments by regularly checking this advice and the media.”
Just fewer than 900,000 British tourists visit Thailand every year, with the majority heading to the country’s capital, as well as Koh Samui and Pattaya.
