Skiing asks a lot of all sorts of muscles, joints and other parts of our anatomy that just don’t get worked that hard in everyday life. If you work on your flexibility, strength and stamina in the weeks before a trip you’ll definitely improve the quality of your time on the slopes, both in terms of energy and performance – which we all know equates to fun.

The good news is you don’t need a gym membership or any sports equipment to get your body in the right condition. Follow the advice and the exercises in these at home ski fitness videos and you’ll head to your winter sports holiday in great shape (like the couple in our featured image, by Skistar Trysil).

Introduction to ski fitness – 2 minutes 20 seconds

Former British ski pro Graham Bell explains in simple terms why it’s important for skiers, particularly beginners, to prepare their bodies before taking to slopes. He also shares three basic exercises that are easily performed at home.

30-minute ski conditioning workout – 31 minutes 28 seconds

This video offers a comprehensive half-hour workout that’s ideal for building strength and flexibility for skiing. It demonstrates 10 exercises and asks you to complete three sets of 16 reps for each exercise. Shot in real time, and requiring no equipment, it’s easy to put on the laptop or iPad and follow along at home.
