Flowers, chocolates, flights?
Mothering Sunday falls on March 15 2015. Better than cellophane-wrapped flowers and a soppy card is an “experience gift” such as a shopping trip, a short cookery course, a wine-tasting or chocolate-making break or, for all-important pampering, a spa break in a snazzy European capital. Gifts that keep on giving…
If you’re thinking of giving your mum the gift of travel next Mothering Sunday, Cheapflights.co.uk has these tips:
Select the right destination
You want somewhere far enough away to be different but still short haul. Paris (two hours by air or a little over two hours by Eurostar), Rome (a three-hour flight), Brussels (one-hour-and-35-minutes by air or just under two hours by Eurostar) or, at the outside, New York (a seven-hour flight).
Consider your mum’s interests
This may not be the time to force her too far outside her comfort zone. If Mum loves to shop, New York might be perfect, especially if there is a shopping tour thrown in. Rome has some fantastic discount outlets too. Chocolate? Brussels has written the book on it. Cookery? There are educational and fun courses around the UK and Ireland.
Time frame
Book some time within the next six months – close enough to excite but far enough away to book time off work etc – and ensure that there is some flexibility if this timeframe doesn’t suit.
Stay in budget
Seek out discounts or buy-one-get-one-free offers on tours and treats. To bring down costs, get your siblings or Dad to pitch in.
