Air passengers who use the Heathrow Express to get them to or from London’s main airport no longer need to rely on paper tickets.

People using the service now have the option of being sent a unique barcode via email or SMS text, which can then be scanned by an inspector on board the train.

Heathrow Express spokesman George Fripp said that the new facility will be particularly appealing to business travellers as it removes any need for queuing.

“Most of our customers are busy professionals who use our service because it is the most convenient way to get to and from Heathrow Airport with a journey time of 15 minutes,” he noted.

“This removes any queuing at ticket machines or ticket desks. All you need to do is book online and board the train straight away.”

The upgrade coincides with a new directive by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which rolls out 100 per cent e-ticketing for all of its member airlines.
