Think of Hogmanay and the world famous New Year’s Eve celebration in Edinburgh instantly comes to mind. But the capital isn’t the only place in Scotland to see in the New Year – Glasgow’s got a few stylish ways of “bringing in the bells” of its own.
A traditional Scottish ceilidh
Sloans, Glasgow’s oldest pub, is famous for its NYE ceilidh. A £65 ticket includes a three-course meal, half a bottle of wine, a glass of fizz on arrival and of course, and a night filled with traditional Gaelic folk music and dancing.
A live music show
Renowned Glasgow live music venues King Tuts, O2 Academy and The 13th Note all host their own dedicated New Year’s Eve nights. Line-ups vary year on year, but generally feature local bands and tribute acts. Cover charges range from free to £20.
A comedy club
The Stand (Hogmanay Hootfest) and Jongleurs both schedule NYE shows giving visitors the chance to laugh the New Year in with stand-up comedians.
Clubbing
The Arches, Oran Mor and Tunnel are the pick of the city’s nightspots.
A ball
The Hilton Glasgow hosts a Hogmanay Ceilidh Ball featuring a bubbly and canapé reception, dinner and ceilidh band. Meanwhile, the Crowne Plaza runs a Hogmanay Gala Ball with a drinks reception, four-course meal, resident DJ and house band.
