You may not know it, but St George’s Day is just around the corner. It’s on Monday, 23 April, but we haven’t been very good about marking our Patron Saint’s day in England.

While people the world over celebrate St Patrick’s Day, and people in Scotland and Wales mark St Andrew’s Day and St David’s Day respectively, poor old St George barely gets a look-in.

We thought we’d change all that, and take a look at the best places to celebrate St George’s Day in the sun. It’s unlikely we’ll get much of that here in England, so where can you enjoy the day in the sunshine?

Gibraltar

The overseas British territory is a little taste of England on the Mediterranean, so where better to celebrate St George’s Day?

The weather is markedly better than in England, and it could be argued that Gibraltar has more patriotism than we could ever hope for.

Catalonia, Spain

La Diada de Sant Jorj is celebrated in the Spanish region of Catalonia as a sort of Valentine’s Day, with loved ones exchanging gifts on 23 April.

Traditionally, men give women a red rose and the ladies reciprocate with a book.

Bangkok, Thailand

It may not be the first place that comes to mind when we think of St George, but Bangkok is full of English-style pubs and bars.

They will all be celebrating St George’s Day in their own unique way, so for a Saint’s Day with a difference, Bangkok is the place to be!
