When it comes to travelling around London I’m a bit of public transport enthusiast so when I was invited to trial the Kabbee minicab booking app I actually wondered when I’d ever get the chance to use it. But a mere two days after installing the app Kabbee came to my rescue when a Tuesday night movie screening ran late and I missed the last Tube home.
The prospect of an hour long journey from Camden to West London by night bus seemed more than a little grim – especially on a school night – so I thought this was the perfect time to give the Kabbee app a go.
Kabbee is a licensed minicab price comparison and booking service you can use as a smartphone app or online at kabbee.com.
Simply enter your desired pick up point, destination and car size into the app and Kabbee instantly compares fares from over 70 cab fleets across London. In seconds, up pops a selection of quotes from various minicab companies along with the estimated wait time. The app automatically highlights the closest cab, the cheapest fare, and the best rated by customers so you can easily pick the best provider.
If you’re planning ahead, you can also use the app to book a cab in advance and don’t worry if – like me – you never seem to have any cash in your wallet as you can pay by credit card or through a prepaid account.
After entering my details I was given a number of options and luckily enough the closest cab was also the cheapest at an exceptionally reasonable £22 for an 8 mile trip – lock it in!
Just after booking I realised the pickup address I’d entered was pedestrian access only – no cab is going to be driving up into the Camden Lock – but it was easy enough to click through onto my booking and make a call the cab company to work out a more suitable.
The operator stayed on the phone until I’d spotted the driver and with that, we were off and a swift 20mins later we were at our destination. And there was no need to rummage for change on arrival – my prepared account took care of that.
Kabbee is avaliable on iPhone, Android, Blackberry 10 app, Windows Phone 8, and at Kabbee.com
