Frankfurt Airport’s new winter timetable features a number of new flights to and from the UK and greater connectivity for long-haul travellers.

The new winter schedule, which begins on 30 October, features an expanded service thanks to the introduction of a new runway – Runway Northwest. This means that, in the first phase of capacity expansion, the number of planned flights will increase from an average of 83 to 90 take-offs and landings per hour.

As a result, new routes will be introduced from Frankfurt Airport to the UK.

Lufthansa is to launch three daily flights to Aberdeen, while London Gatwick to Frankfurt flights will be served twice daily by Lufthansa.

British Midland International will be the carrier on the newly launched Nottingham/East Midlands to Frankfurt route, with 16 connections per week.

A number of new international routes are being launched from Frankfurt too including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

All Nippon Airways will also be flying Frankfurt-Tokyo this winter with the new Boeing Dreamliner 787 jet, the first intercontinental route for this new generation jet.

The Dreamliner, which made its first commercial flight yesterday, is an all-new commercial jetliner that promises to bring new efficiencies to airlines and deliver superior comfort to passengers.

The plane features the industry’s largest windows, a lower cabin altitude and cleaner air. These features, Boeing claim, all combine to allow passengers to arrive at their destinations more refreshed.

Boeing claims that the Dreamliner 787 is about 20 per cent more fuel efficient than the same-sized aircraft flying today.
