Research by TripAdvisor has revealed which hotels around the world will give you the most romantic getaway possible, and two of them are closer to home than you might think.

“With the most romantic time of the year fast approaching, these awards recognise the hotels that couples rate highest in the romance stakes,” said Emma Shaw TripAdvisor spokesperson.

Making the worldwide cut are the Cranleigh Boutique Hotel and Cedar Manor Hotel, both in the Lake District.

The five-star Cranleigh Boutique features romantic mood lighting in each room, as well as luxurious bathrooms, to create the perfect romantic evening in.

The hotel’s surroundings certainly help the loved-up atmosphere, and hotel manager Emma Johnson has said that lots of couples have got engaged while staying over the years.

“We prepare rooms, book limousines and restaurants for people and come up with romantic places they can propose in,” she said.

Cranleigh Boutique just edged out nearby rival Cedar Manor Hotel, in Bowness-on-Windermere, to claim third place in the world rankings.

“It’s great to see two British hotels in the world top 10 rivalling the likes of famously romantic destinations such as Italy and the Maldives,” added Ms Shaw.

“Stunning scenery and special touches both hotels offer make Cumbria a much-loved destination, especially for couples looking for a spot of romance.”

If you’re after somewhere really romantic, the top spot in the ranking was claimed by the luxurious Anastasis Apartments in Imerovigli, Greece.

Located at the top of the Caldera Cliff, this set of stylish yet traditional apartments offer unrivalled views over the beautiful Imerovigli Bay.

The design of each apartment exposes guests to the almost overwhelming views over the bay, while making you feel like the only two people in the world at the same time.
