After the fun of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park swiftly closed for renovation. For nearly two years, the site was under development and closed, but in April 2014 it finally opened its doors to visitors.
There are still a few parts closed off, in particular the actual stadium which was bought by a football team, but that adds to its charm – it feels like a work in progress, with clean shrubbery everywhere that’s bound to grow over the years, and lots of happy locals wandering about. There are lots of safety stewards around, giving the park a safe and reassuring atmosphere, a bit like a sport-based theme park.
