A new display at the Museum of London – A Royal Arrival – features baby clothes worn by former royal infants. Tiny booties, an embroidered skullcap, a little linen vest and a tiny lace mitten are showcased, linking Charles I to George III and Edward VII to the littlest royal. More than 400 years of history are on display.

Timothy Long, exhibition curator says: “Not even here yet, Baby Cambridge has captured the world’s imagination already. Third in line to the throne – boy or girl – this newborn baby will eventually go on to rule the UK and Commonwealth realms.

“Our archive at the Museum of London is rich with objects related to the royal family, tracing back centuries. From garments worn by the new baby’s Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandmother, Queen Victoria, to souvenirs commemorating the Coronation of Great Grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

A Royal Arrival is a free display at the Museum of London and runs until October 2013.
