For many, lazing by the pool and sipping rum cocktails in the sun sounds like the perfect holiday but there are a select few of individuals, who’d rather douse themselves in rum, set themselves on fire and then jump into that pool from a plane, and all before breakfast. It’s these adrenaline junkies that we dedicate this post, for we have scoured the internet to shine a light on living life on the edge and how to see the world through the eyes of a stuntman.
Jump into hell
Nearest airport – Temuco Airport
Imagine bungee jumping into it from a helicopter face first and coming within 700 feet of a pool of molten lava. That’s what’s on offer to those brave enough to part with $12,500 cash and take the plunge into one of the world’s most active volcanos. The nearest airport to the Villarrica volcano is just a couple of hours away if you fancy taking the plunge.

Indiana Jones style hike
Nearest airport – Xi’an Xianyang International Airport
Partial to a spot of hiking? In China, you can take a stroll up to a height of 2,160 metres on the side of Mt Huashan, one of the country’s great mountains. Thankfully over the years the locals have constructed various trails to get you there, complete with rickety old planks and rusty chains to hold on to. Once at the top, you can have a spot of tea at a teahouse, formerly an old Taoist temple, before heading back down to earth.
Crocodile Dundee encounter
Nearest airport – Darwin International Airport
The Cage of Death is an attraction that would send chills down the spine of most normal folk, but that’s because they don’t understand the delights of swimming within inches of the most dangerous reptiles on the planet. In Darwin City in Northern Australia you can hop inside a glass container, submerged underwater in a crocodile tank as the 16-foot long predator chows down on big tasty slabs of meat. Crocosaurus Cove, which gives visitors a unique and up close view of Australia’s saltwater crocodiles is only a 15 minute drive from Darwin International Airport so you can hop in a taxi and stare into the jaws of the crocs within a few minutes of landing.
Cliff jumping
Nearest airport – Scandic Stavanger Airport
Preikestolen cliff is Norway’s highest cliff and offers stunning views of the rocky nordic landscape once you get to the top. Once you’ve caught you’re breath you can take a quick way down by hurling yourself off the top and falling 604 metres to the bottom. Just make sure you remember to open your parachute so that you can do it all over again. You can get to the popular base jumping spot from Stavanger airport (if you haven’t already skydived out of the plane).
To the edge of space
Nearest airport – Nizhny Novgorod International Airport
Relive scenes from Top Gun and take high flying to the next level in Russia by flying a fighter jet to the edge of space. No, we’re not kidding, you can get behind the wheel(?!?) of a MiG-29 or MiG-31, capable of speeds up to 1,860mph and up to 70,000 feet, all while laughing at the mere mortals below. Incredible Adventures are the only company in the world to offer the experience, situated in Russia’s third largest city Nizhny and home of the iconic MiG jets.
