They’re calling it the “ultimate holiday memory”, it’s a selfie taken by drone. A dronie.
Tourism New Zealand is sending drones to the ski fields of the South Island. The quadcopters (DJII Phantom Vision2 drones) are capturing footage of snowgoers who can share the dronie with their friends and family.
The drones are whirring around six South Island destinations – Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Mount Hutt, Mount Cook, Queenstown and Lake Tekapo – until the end of August.
They record a close-up of the visitor before panning out to show the breathtakingly beautiful New Zealand landscape.
The film, just eight seconds long, is sent to the subject’s phone and can be shared across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #NZdronie.
To find out where the dronie will be, follow Tourism New Zealand on Twitter or Facebook.
