Ski holidays are more popular than ever among British holidaymakers, but according to new research we’re spending less time on the slopes these days – four hours per day now compared to six hours per day two decades ago.

Ski resorts have woken up to this fact and are offering tourists more than just a week on the slopes. So what are the best resorts for more than skiing?

Grand Bornard, France
This resort in the French Alps has always had some great skiing, but now has even more to offer. With an arts centre, an ice rink with a DJ and an ice-climbing wall, there’s plenty to be done if skiing isn’t your thing. Search and compare: cheap flights to France

Vallorcine, France
As with many French resorts, Vallorcine has an abundance of ski slopes and plenty of off-piste. But in the resort itself you’ll find luxury hotels and spas, boasting saunas, hammams and Japanese baths. Search and compare: cheap flights to France

Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt is an iconic ski resort, and like many Swiss resorts, it is pure luxury. You’ll find great shopping, spas and a couple of interesting museums. Search and compare: cheap flights to Switzerland
