Picking a restaurant for a multi-generational family dinner (like in this featured image by SuziJane) can be tricky.

When searching for a place that’ll balance grandparents’ and grandkids’ divergent tastes, Urbanspoon’s list of the 100 most popular family-friendly restaurants in the US could come in handy.

Selection for the list was based on positive reviews from professional food critics, bloggers, the Urbanspoon community, and diners.

The list includes entries from 28 states and Washington D.C. The next best performing states are Texas (8), California (7), and Oklahoma (7), Seattle (4), New York City (4), and Atlanta (4).

The most popular food categories on the list cater to children’s palates, with pizza (16 entries) and BBQ (10 entries) ranking as the top two.

Large, shareable plates are clearly popular with families, with many of the top 100 featuring them on their menus.
