The only thing that can temper pre-holiday excitement is this: the shrill little voice that asks (repeatedly) “Are we there yet?” and “How much longer?”

“Did you remember the passports / tickets?” can set parents’ teeth on edge too. Especially if mum is being asked the same question by her grown-up travelling companion. Small wonder we’re all excited by that first drink…

The research comes from Cheapflights.co.uk’s Holiday Heartbeat, which measures the peaks and troughs of our time away – and shows the shape of our holidays.

Results of the interviews with 1,033 adults were plotted on a graph (see it on our infographic) to give a holiday mood index: showing when people feel “relaxed” or “stressed”.

The most stressful holiday question for parents was the familiar: “did you remember the passports / tickets?” (19 per cent for parents, but 21 per cent for non-parents).

The next most stressful questions for parents were the dreaded; “are we there yet?” and “how much longer?” (both 16 per cent).

What are the questions that your little ones ask? Repeatedly. Again and again. Without end. Ad infinitum…
