Looking for a boutique hotel on the West Coast? How about a really boutique spot? You may want to investigate the recently opened Caravan: The Tiny House Hotel, which offers a warm atmosphere, cosy accommodations, and a true home-away-from-home vibe. All within a petite caravan.
Portland, Oregon, is exactly where you’d expect to find this residence, which might be most accurately described as a hipster trailer park. Opened in July 2013 in the trendy Alberta Arts District, this is an already-popular, must-stay destination for those wishing to live like a local. A member of the small space movement, the hotel encourages people to downscale in the pursuit of simpler and more sustainable living.
Guests can choose from one of three custom-made, totally self-contained “tiny houses”: The Rosebud, The Tandem or The Pearl, which each measure between 100 and 200 sq. ft. and sleep either 1-2 or 1-4 people. Each trailer comes fully equipped with basic comforts, including electric heat, a bathroom with flush toilet and a hot shower, and a kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator, and hot plate.
Guests rave about the generous hospitality of hosts Kol and Deb, both of whom are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and are keen to recommend delicious local vegan and gluten-free hotspots. The downside? You won’t want to leave.
