Edinburgh International Film Festival
Established in 1947, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is an absolute must for film fanatics, promoting the very best in international cinema and global film making.
The EIFF was one of the world’s first international film festivals and has a number of famous titles under its belt.
It has recently been announced that Disney/Pixar’s film Brave will premiere at the Scottish film festival. According to First Minister Alex Salmond, the animated film is the most “high-profile film ever set in and themed around Scotland, featuring Scottish stars”.
Notable films that have been premiered over the past few years include The Hurt Locker, Knocked UP, Ratatouille and Billy Elliot .
This year’s festival will run from 20 June to 1 July.
Festival De Cannes
Another famous hot spot on the film festival scene is Cannes. The international film festival has been running since 1939.
This year, Cannes will be inundated by film stars, film fans and film makers from 16 to 27 May.
Sundance Film Festival
Another favourite festival for film buffs is the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA. It is the largest independent film festival in America and is held in January.
For the first time in the history of the festival, it will be travelling outside the United States. For those who could not make the Utah event, the Sundance Film Festival will be held at the O2 in London from 26 to 29 April.
