This weekend the Duchess of Cambridge made her first public appearance since the pregnancy was announced, at the Sports Personality of the Year awards.

Kate was on hand to present the winning athletes with their awards, and looked stunning in a green Alexander McQueen dress.

Showing no sign of the stresses and strains of the last few weeks, the Duchess was all smiles as she chatted with the winners and shared a joke with David Beckham.

Kate wasn’t able to attend the whole event, but given that she is still recovering from the severe form of morning sickness she suffered for more than two weeks, her appearance is all the more impressive.

“While the Duchess does not feel ready to attend a four-hour engagement, she is keen to show her support to the UK’s sportsmen and women at this prestigious event which caps a momentous year for British sport,” a royal source said.

Kate will be hoping to put the last few weeks behind her and focus on staying relaxed and healthy for the baby, which is where a babymoon could come in handy.

Babymoons, where an expectant couple take one last holiday before they start their family, have become hugely popular in recent years.

They are a great chance for a couple to spend some quality time together before their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of a son or daughter. So, where should Will and Kate take their babymoon?

Seychelles

A babymoon is all about a mother- and father-to-be spending some time together as a couple, rather than as parents.

A suitable babymoon destination may involve taking things back to the beginning and revisiting the honeymoon hotspot. In Will and Kate’s case, it’s the Seychelles.

The newlyweds spent ten days in the island paradise, and after such a public wedding this secluded retreat was probably just what they needed.

Paris

Although flying is safe during a healthy pregnancy, with the safest period generally between 12 and 32 weeks, Kate may not want to be too far from home.

So, a trip to the romantic city of Paris, which is just a short trip on the Eurostar away, is the ideal babymoon choice.

With a luxury hotel offering stunning views over the beautiful city and plenty of culture to soak up, a Paris babymoon could be just what the doctor ordered.

Lake Como

An expectant mother’s job during a pregnancy is to stay as relaxed and comfortable as possible, to keep her and the baby healthy – meaning a ski holiday is probably out of the question.

When it comes to relaxing and tranquil destinations, William and Kate are spoilt for choice. But for luxury as well as some peace and quiet, you can’t beat Lake Como in Italy.

One of the country’s most beautiful spots, Lake Como is no stranger to the rich and famous. Celebs such as George Clooney, Madonna and Richard Branson have frequented the area in the past, so the Royal couple would fit right in.

Kenya

Kenya will always hold a special place in Will and Kate’s heart, as it was the setting for Will’s romantic proposal.

The prince has always felt a fondness for Africa, not least because he isn’t mobbed in the street whenever he steps outside, and now Kate can share that fondness with him.

While a Safari through the Kenyan wilderness probably isn’t the best thing for Kate to be doing right now, there are plenty of luxury hotels and resorts to unwind in.

Scotland

As with Kenya and the Seychelles, Scotland is another important destination in Will and Kate’s story, as it was while at St Andrews University that they first met.

The picturesque region would be ideal for a relaxing babymoon, with plenty to see and more than a few happy memories for the couple.

But they might prefer to stay at great grandmother-to-be Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved Balmoral Castle – it’s certainly secluded and peaceful enough!
