As a teacher, one understands the importance of education. Education is the key to personal and social development, growth, and, in general, a brighter future. Unfortunately, due to many social and political reasons, not everybody has access to quality education. At GoEco, we support numerous projects and placements worldwide that aim to provide quality education and support to communities, children and adults for whom it would otherwise not have been accessible.

So what’s in it for me?

There are many good reasons for volunteering for education. Volunteering is a great way to immerse yourself in a culture; to have a unique experience that allows you to completely integrate yourself into the society. Live among locals, eat authentic local cuisine, and contribute to community initiatives; all the while experiencing the essence of your chosen volunteering location.

India has amazing teaching opportunities such as the Teaching and Childcare in Delhi programme. This programme is not only great for those wishing to really understand the local Indian culture, but also an excellent platform for any further travel adventure!

Another good reason to volunteer for education is industry experience. Spend six months or more on the Paid Teaching in Thailand project, where you will live and work, teaching English in rural schools. In these longer placements, volunteers are not just giving back to the community and experiencing an authentic way of living, but are also receiving valuable industry experience that will help further their career as a teacher.

How does the project benefit?

The presence of volunteers in the programmes is crucial and the effects of volunteer participation, invaluable. From impoverished communities in Goa to orphanages in Africa, every person in this world has the right to an education. The energy and knowledge of volunteers helps to pave a brighter future for those sometimes living in a dark world. Just listening to a native English speaker already has an effect on language development. Volunteers are required to teach, not just academic studies such as Maths and English, but also lessons on basic life skills such as personal hygiene. This is especially the case in orphanage environments where volunteers will create close bonds with the children; acting as pseudo-siblings and so passing on all the life lessons that a sibling would.

With access to this education, many children, adults, and communities have a chance at a better economic future with more opportunities for career and social development. The money from volunteering also goes towards helping the project coordinators to purchase more resources and organize better facilities.
