The London Olympic Games are fast approaching, and the Olympic Torch is making its way around every corner of the country.
The countdown to the Games officially began two weeks ago, when the Torch landed in Cornwall from Greece for its 8,000-mile journey around the country.
Around 8,000 people will carry the torch on its mammoth journey, with the flame coming within an hour of 95 per cent of the population along the route.
Today, on Day 14 of the relay, the torch will travel from Bolton to Liverpool on a 93-mile journey that will see 157 Torchbearers carry the flame.
Travelling through towns and villages, the torch will visit a number of iconic landmarks in the area. So, what key sights are there to see on the relay route today?
Aintree Racecourse
Olympic Torchbearer Kim Cooper, who was nominated for her charity work, will carry the flame through the grandstand at Aintree and onto the racecourse itself.
Aintree Racecourse is an historic racing venue, and is known across the world for hosting the Grand National each year.
Another Place, Crosby
Artist Antony Gormley’s Another Place, a work of modern art on Crosby Beach, is also being included in the relay today.
An iconic piece of modern art, Gormley’s Another Place has had its fair share of controversy with safety concerns raised by some. But the sculptures remain a popular tourist attraction, and are well worth a visit.
Liverpool
Liverpool is the final destination of today’s relay and the torch will arrive in the historic city this evening. A city full of culture, Liverpool’s city centre will host an Olympic celebration in the evening.
With performances from bands and dance acts, the event will include the lighting of a cauldron on stage to allow the audience to see the Olympic Flame.
