The Olympic Torch relay has been rumbling on this week, with the iconic flame making its way around Scotland.
It has visited some of Scotland’s most famous places and landmarks, including St Andrews and even up to some of the remote islands off the north coast.
Today the Flame will leave Scotland to touch down in Newcastle, before travelling around the North East over the weekend.
The Flame’s journey will enter its fifth week next week, where it will visit towns and cities across the north of England. So where can you see it?
York
On Tuesday, the Flame will travel from the industrial city of Hull, past Leeds, through Harrogate and finally into York that evening.
York is one of the only walled cities in the UK, and attracts thousands of tourists each year. A strong sense of history runs through the city, from Viking settlements to medieval streets.
Carlisle
After spending the night in York, the Flame will embark northwards once more, passing through towns such as Thirsk and Penrith, past the Yorkshire Dales and on to Carlisle.
One of England’s most northerly cities, Carlisle is just ten miles from the Scottish border. Like York, Carlisle has plenty to offer any history buffs visiting the city. With architecture dating back to the Tudors, there is plenty to see and do.
Lake District
After briefly popping back into Scotland next Thursday, the Flame will visit Carlisle for the second time before heading through the Lake District.
One of the most beautiful and breathtaking parts of the UK, the Lake District attracts ramblers, campers and anyone who loves the great outdoors. Dotted with picturesque villages set amongst the stunning landscapes, the Lake District is must-visit for everyone in Britain.
