After a full day of sightseeing or a long night of partying, there’s nothing better than going back to your comfy hotel to crash out.
A new survey has revealed the very best cities in the world for a hotel stay, so who were the winners and losers?
The beautiful city of Dresden, in Germany (pictured above), topped the poll with a ranking of 83.08 per cent. And out of 100 cities, which one came dead last? London.
It’s a damning indictment of our capital city, especially when you consider the study by comparison website Trivago.com used hotel ratings and reviews from 140 booking sites.
So, it wasn’t a good result for London. But Dresden, with its blend of traditional architecture and fine art culture, is definitely a worthy winner.
Dresden was closely followed by Hanoi in Vietnam, which scored 82.99 per cent to take second place, and third-placed Portland, USA, with 82.93 per cent.
Other cities in the top ten include Tokyo, Santiago de Compostela in Spain and the Polish cities of Krakow and Gdansk.
Two other US cities, Chicago and Seattle, made it into the top ten long with Portland, while Budapest, Hungary rounded off the top ten.
London may have finished dead last, with a measly ranking of 73.42 per cent, but it wasn’t the only big-name metropolis whose reputation suffered.
The European capitals of Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen and even Paris all finished in the bottom ten places.
Other poor performers include Rio de Janeiro, which finished just above London with a score of 74.60 per cent, Los Angeles and Panama City.
It wasn’t all bad news for UK cities though. Edinburgh managed to squeeze into the top half of the table in 46th place.
