The scenic city of Chattanooga is characterised by spectacular vistas and a stunning variety of activities. Located in Southeastern Tennessee, this US city lies on the Tennessee River offering plenty of must-see attractions both above and below ground. Only a few minutes from the central area, Lookout Mountain offers superb panoramic views of the city and the surrounding states from atop Rock City, famed for its Lover’s Leap lookout point. You can reach the top of the mountain by taking an incredible ride on the Incline Railway, a historic landmark, which is also the world’s steepest passenger railway. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can also journey deep beneath Lookout Mountain to see the spectacular Ruby Falls, a breathtaking waterfall located 1,120 feet (340 m) beneath the mountain. For a more relaxing journey, the river offers plenty of scenic cruises by riverboat, cruiser or duck boat, giving the opportunity to explore the river gorge and learn about the city’s rich history. Animal lovers will enjoy spending a day at the Tennessee Aquarium or the Chattanooga Zoo to get close up views of the resident wildlife. Alternatively, discover the city’s heritage with a ride on the vintage Tennessee Valley Railroad on the east side of the city. When you have enjoyed all the very best attractions that the city has to offer, try attending one of the many festivals that are held in the city each year, such as the Southern Brewer’s Festival or the River Roast, dedicated to beer and barbeque. With so many different facades to this incredible city, the challenge is knowing just where to begin your trip and where to finish it.
Two free electric shuttles operate in the city centre area. There is also a reliable system of buses that run throughout the city area. If you want to hire a car, there are several major car hire companies in the city.
Chattanooga Airport (CHA) is a small airport located 15 minutes’ drive to the eastern edge of the city. Several major car rental companies are located at the airport, but you can also book a taxi or limousine from one of the local taxi companies. Several shuttle services are run by a number of hotels in the city. There is also a bus service that runs into the city from a bus station near the airport.
