One of the most peaceful and historic attractions in Monroe is the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens. This attraction is based in Biedenharn’s historic home, built in 1913, and both the elegant gardens and the fascinating exhibits are well worth a visit as they provide a real insight into Monroe’s past. The Aviation Museum is a great place to visit, especially if you are interested in seeing some exciting vintage aircraft. Monroe is also home to a zoo: the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. This Zoo is a lovely place to go as a family, as there are plenty of activities tailored to younger visitors as well as having scenic routes to walk, places to eat, and picnic areas as well. Here you can meet animals and birds native to the Monroe region as well as some animals from all over the world.
Monroe is proud of having the oldest publicly owned transport system in the whole of the USA. The public bus network in Monroe is affordable and reliable, and will take you to most of the major sites in the city. If you want to take advantage of the local knowledge of a guide, then make sure to hop on one of the tour buses and coaches that operate in the city. Hiring a car is another good option for visitors to Monroe. The town has good road links with nearby cities, and a hire car will enable you to explore further afield if you have time.
Monroe International Airport (MLU) is located a short drive from Monroe town centre. Many hotels operate shuttle bus services to and from the airport, timing these shuttles so that they coincide with flight arrival and departure times. Hiring a car from the kiosk at the airport, or taking a taxi, are two other handy ways of reaching your hotel after your flight arrives in Monroe.
